Start a List of Strengths

What makes you an amazing tennis player?

Is your footwork fancy?

Do you hit a powerful serve?

Is your backhand killer?

Think about all the things that you are great at.

Then actually take a pen and put them down on paper.

It can be easy to focus on our weaknesses which will then lead you to feel insecure and effect your playing.

There is definitely a time to think about your weakness and how you can improve them…but right before your match is not a good time to do that.

Instead take the list of what makes you a magnificent tennis player and keep it in your tennis bag.

Pull it out before your next match and read that before stepping onto the court to give yourself a confidence boost.

Dress for Confidence

You are what you wear…wait is that right?

You are what you EAT…that is the saying.

Well we will discuss that saying in this post as well…but for now let’s talk about dressing for success on the tennis court.

How would you feel if you stepped on the court wearing an outfit that you HATED?

Not great…would this effect your playing?

Most likely.

I am not suggesting that you go out and spend a small fortune on your tennis attire…however I do think it is a good idea to wear something that you feel confident in.

Find Your Tennis Theme Song

Find Your Theme Song

Rocky had a theme song and so should you!

Did you know that music can actually have an effect on athletic performance?

You can read more about that here.

Browse some of your favorite songs and find one that stands out.

You want to feel INSPIRED and STRONG after you listen to your theme song.

Make sure you pack some headphones in your tennis bag and take a listen to your theme song before you step out on the court so you can feel inspired.

Get Inspired By Others

Do you have a tennis role model that you look up to?

If not..you should find one.

Having someone to look up to is a great way to not only get inspired but also learn new techniques that you can apply to your tennis game.

Your tennis role model can be someone you know in real life or it can be a famous tennis player you watch on TV.

If the person is someone you know…get to know them better.

Ask them about what strategies they use in their matches and how they stay confident on the court.

If it is someone famous then read and watch them as much as you can…and soak it all up like a sponge.

Have the Proper Fuel

You are what you eat.

If you eat a bunch of junk the night before or the day of your tennis match…chances are you are not going to be feeling great.

If you want to feel light on your feet and quick during your match then you will want to make sure you are eating nutritious food leading up to it.

You will also want to keep some healthy snacks on hand to fuel you during any tennis tournament especially if you are playing more then one match.

Having a balanced diet can have an impact on your performance (read about that here) so make sure you are eating well.

Avoid eating overly processed foods and stay away from alcohol.
